The Broadway Sinfonietta is an all female-identifying, majority women-of-color orchestral collective founded by Macy Schmidt, and designed to uplift the existence, excellence, and equity of female BIPOC musicians in the Broadway industry.

For Schmidt, making her Broadway debut was a “completely magical experience” and the very goal that had originally motivated her to move to New York City after college. Schmidt expressed gratitude for making her debut on a show “with such a timely message,” and was thrilled to be “a woman of color working on a musical about one of the most iconic women of color in history.”

As a Music Director:
The production, which runs through March 22, has scenic design by Jungah Han, costume design by Rose Bisogno, lighting design by Carolina Ortiz Herrera, sound design by Five Ohm Productions, and prop design by Deb Gaouette. Macy Schmidt is the music supervisor and Louis Markowitz serves as production stage manager.
Hamilton Tony Award winner Leslie Odom, Jr. and Tootsie Tony Award nominee Sarah Stiles are among the artists to join the Vineyard Theatre’s May 6 gala honoring Tony- and Olivier Award-nominated actor-playwright Colman Domingo.
Robert O’Hara (Slave Play, Bootycandy) will direct the 6 PM event that will have music direction by Macy Schmidt.
